Roitman’s theorem for singular complex projective surfaces

Let X be a complex projective surface with arbitrary singularities. We construct a generalized Abel–Jacobi map A0(X) → J 2(X) and show that it is an isomorphism on torsion subgroups. Here A0(X) is the appropriate Chow group of smooth 0-cycles of degree 0 on X, and J 2(X) is the intermediate Jacobian associated with the mixed Hodge structure on H 3(X). Our result generalizes a theorem of Roitman...

Foliations on Complex Projective Surfaces

In this text we shall review the classification of foliations on complex projective surfaces according to their Kodaira dimension, following McQuillan’s seminal paper [MQ1] with some complements and variations given by [Br1] and [Br2]. Most of the proofs will be only sketched, and the text should be considered as guidelines to the above works (and related ones), with no exhaustivity nor selfcon...

CR Singular Immersions of Complex Projective Spaces

Quadratically parametrized smooth maps from one complex projective space to another are constructed as projections of the Segre map of the complexification. A classification theorem relates equivalence classes of projections to congruence classes of matrix pencils. Maps from the 2-sphere to the complex projective plane, which generalize stereographic projection, and immersions of the complex pr...

A Symplectic Fixed Point Theorem for Complex Projective Spaces

1. Arnold's conjecture. An automorphism ^ of a symplectic manifold (P,u;) is homologous to the identity if there is a smooth family tyt (* € [0,1]) of automorphisms such that the time-dependent vector field £t defined by di^t/dt = & ° ^t is globally hamiltonian; i.e. if there is a smooth family Ht of real-valued functions on P such that £*JCÜ = dHt. It was conjectured by Arnold [1], as an exten...

A Schottky Decomposition Theorem for Complex Projective Structures

Let S be a closed orientable surface of genus at least two, and let C be an arbitrary (complex) projective structure on S. We show that there is a decomposition of S into pairs of pants and cylinders such that the restriction of C to each component has an injective developing map and a discrete and faithful holonomy representation. This decomposition implies that every projective structure can ...
